But The Yankees Win 6-5

Oh dear. Manny and Papi both couldn't get clutch hits. The Sox took the lead 5-4 in the 5th. But Robinson Cano got an RBI triple against Okajima in the top of the 8th. Then Alex Rodriguez homered against Papelbon with two strikes and two out in the top of the 9th. And that was that. Boston lost a second straight series against New York. No reason to panic, but the goal of any team is to win every regular season series in order to assure a spot in the playoffs. The Sox couldn't get it done despite some very exciting baseball this past weekend.

So what happens between now and their next meeting on August 28th is critical. Will the Yankees be able to build a 10-game winning streak during that time? (I doubt it). Will injuries slow down the Red Sox? (I think so). Will Manny and Papi get hot? (yes, but after the All Star break). Will Rodger Clemens make a difference in the Bronx? (doubtful). Will the Yankees try to trade A-Rod? (no). Will they try to acquire Eric Gagne? (yes).

So the Yankees are off to Chicago for four games to play the White Sox. They should win that series. Boston just landed in Oakland to play four games against the Athletics. They should win that series. We'll be watching both teams closely.
